OHLEx, held at Chester Racecourse in England, provided the venue for a get-together of the UK T&D community on June 11th and 12th, with visitor attendance exceeding 500.
CTC Global’s participation was prompted by its continuing commitment to the UK market, and to act as a springboard for the launch of new technologies of interest to UK T&D operators.

Recent projects of interest involving ACCC conductor include a line upgrade for National Grid scheduled to start later in 2019, as well as new and ongoing projects in the Scottish Highlands on 132 kV transmission network.

The ACCC conductor was also featured in a presentation made by Pat Howe, lead project manager at SSE on one of these projects. The presentation, entitled “Could High Performance Conductors Be The Answer To Extending The Asset Life Of Your Existing Towers?” covered the Fort William – Fort Augustus 132 kV OHL upgrade on a 44 km circuit of PL16 towers (dating from the 1950s) through the Great Glen in the Scottish Highlands. SSE have leveraged the low-sag and capacity/weight advantage of ACCC conductor to deliver significant capacity increases with minimal tower reinforcements on a critical transmission line.
